Comcast next contract
- Internet should be a negotiated low cost extra extra (eg, $10/mo)
- TV contract should include Xfinity X1
- High Definition should be a no cost standard
- Contract period should be for 4 years (not 8 years)

President of LOD Board of Directors
Dear Mr. President:
Re: Comcast
The LOD Computer Club is one of the LOD clubs that is oriented to technology and helping the
LOD community integrate this new and ever advancing technology into their everyday lives.
In our meetings we have been discussing Comcast which is our techno umbilical cord.
As a group, we would like to present for your response our concerns and hopes for the future.
1. Why isn’t the internet included automatically in our Comcast contract?
At least provide a negotiated low cost option. (eg, $10/mo). Considering that LOD has almost 50% of the
units vacant for 50% of the year, the total average per unit demand on Comcast’s bandwidth is greatly
reduced and should be priced low to allow Snowbird’s to keep their internet service completely active for
the whole year without paying a maintenance charge or returning their equipment and starting over anew
every year. The year round residents would also appreciate a low cost internet fee.
2. Why do we sign eight year contracts when technology changes so quickly?
The argument that Comcast gives a large signing bonus for 8 years is suspect. Does the 8 year bonus
greatly exceed two four year bonuses?? Is the 8 year bonus trading off old or obsolete technology for
Comcast’s economic benefit? For many years the nation has legislatively established digital (HD)
television as the standard but we are still paying Comcast for HD upgrades for our extra boxes.
3. For television, Comcast Xfinity X1 is a superb system. Will it be included in the next
contract?
4. Are there any strategic steps being taken to ensure that Comcast does not take LOD for
granted and offers the best contract deal to LOD?
We know the LOD Board takes the Comcast contract seriously and does hard work in finalizing
the contract. Sometimes it is easy to limit thought patterns based on the past. Is it possible to
have one LOD Computer Club representative on the LOD-Comcast negotiating committee? With
the quickly changing world of technology, we trust that LOD’s antennas are up.
Respectfully submitted by the LOD Computer Club,
